ACS qualifications for gas engineers need to be renewed every five years but the COVID-19 pandemic has played havoc with reassessments this year.
A prolonged period of lockdown since the middle of March meant many ACS assessment centres were closed or operating at reduced capacity and this has led to a huge backlog.

Help from Gas Safe Register
Gas Safe Register has recently published a leaflet, with advice for gas engineers on how to deal with this so that they carry on trading. They’ve extended the certification period in some instances and released an updated timetable, setting out new requirement dates for those whose certification has lapsed over the last few months. Check when your certification runs out so that you can follow the new requirements:- If your ACS certification expired before 1 October 2020 there is an extension of up to six months from the certificate’s expiry date to take your reassessment.
- If your ACS qualifications expired on or after 1 October 2020 you are required to renew their certification before 31st March 2021.
- If your ACS qualifications expires after 31st March 2021 you will need to renew the qualification by the expiry date shown on the certificate.
