Logic4training’s SIP (Safe Isolation Provider) Safe Isolation of a Cut Out training course gives candidates the underpinning knowledge to safely de-energise & re-energise the supply to a property to facilitate the installation of isolators or to allow the installation of other equipment in both domestic and non-domestic premises - such as Electric Vehicle Charging Points.

With the growing demand for EV chargers, heat pumps, EESS, and solar PV systems in homes and commercial premises, the ability to safely install a local isolation switch is essential. Safe Isolation Works (SIW) are required to ensure other electrical work can be carried out safely at a customer’s property.

With this course, we have helped companies such as Thrift EnergyAira HomeAscent Energy, and We Power Your Car expand the skill set of their workforce and help them achieve their high-level services.

Logic4training’s 4-day SIP Safe Isolation of a Cut Out course gives candidates the awareness, underpinning knowledge & practical skills to safely isolate a cut out for the installation of isolators and/or other electrical work required in a property including the installation of EV Chargers.

Learners will undertake learning at our training centre. This enables learners to practice and learn de-energising & re-energising cut outs in a safe and controlled environment which simulates real work situations.

The scope of work that a SIP is authorised to carry out is deliberately limited and is set out in Section 2H of Distribution Code Use of System Agreement (DCUSA). ‘Safe Isolation Works (SIW)’ means, in respect of an Entry/Exit Point, works by a SIP Party to:

  • De-energise that Entry/Exit Point;
  • (If reasonably necessary) adjust the terminals of the meter and associated equipment and re-make the connection to them to make safe and remedy any disturbance of the connection that may have occurred;
  • If required, terminate/replace the customer tails on the Electricity Supplier’s meter (provided that such tails must have been provided and tested by the SIP Party or the customer’s electrical engineer); and
  • Re-energise that Entry/Exit Point.

The SIP must not undertake any other work related to the Supply Point, or otherwise interfere with the Registered Supplier’s metering equipment.

Assessments will include observed practical assessments and theory assessments. LCL Certification – This does not provide authorisation to work on the cut out(s) which must be obtained from the DNO or the company must be authorised under the REC scheme.
