Almost a year ago, Logic4training’s Lifetime of Training prize winner, Josh Scott, began his level 2 plumbing diploma, the first step in our Platinum Package, that helps learners gain the qualifications they need to become heating engineers and register with Gas Safe. Josh is now just about to finish his gas portfolio before he goes back to the training centre for a refresher prior to his ACS exams.

We caught up with him recently and he’s full of smiles. He explains:

“It’s a big day for me today, I pick up the keys to my first house! I can’t believe it really.  This last year, training with Logic4training has helped me so much. I’ve got loads more confidence and am beginning to feel I really know what I’m doing. I’m thrilled to have my own home and thanks to Logic, I have most of the skills I need to do it up!

“There’s lots to do; the house needs a new kitchen, a new bathroom, flooring and decorating. Then I’ll tackle the garden. I wanted to find somewhere I could really make my own mark on, it’ll be great.

“I’ve enjoyed the training I’ve had so far. The portfolio part of the MLP has been really good. You start off with boiler servicing and breakdown in the centre and then you move on to work with a qualified heating engineer on installs in people’s houses. This is a great way to learn as you begin to take your own steps and become more independent – practising what you learnt in the workshops in the real world.

“I’ve been working for Belfor, where my Dad and brother, Ryan, work. I’m employed there as a ‘Multitrader’, so basically, I get to help out with anything and everything.

“Belfor works for insurance companies, putting right the damage that floods and fire do in people’s houses – all the skills I have learnt come into play.  Before I won the competition I worked as a tiler and my plumbing skills come in handy, but I’m looking forward to being able to help with heating systems.

“A while back I set up my own business, but I’ve learnt that when you’re young it’s nice to have the support of a company, and more experienced tradespeople behind you, so I’ve put my business on hold for a while. I’m really happy working for Belfor, and to be honest, I’d never have got a mortgage being self-employed – I’m lucky all-round.

“The great thing about the prize I won is that it doesn’t end here. I’ve got £1,000 a year to spend on training for the next ten year’s so I can pick anything to develop my skills and my career. Maybe I’ll go for solar PV next, or heat pumps – they’re the next big thing.

“Logic4training is great. They’re always offering new qualifications, so I’ll have a little browse and see what I fancy next….

“Now I just need to concentrate on finishing my gas training. I’ve got one more thing to cover for my portfolio, the flue on a boiler install, and then I’m done. My portfolio is complete!

“Logic has helped me in so many ways. They take you through everything and reassure you as you go – building your confidence as well as your knowledge. I really can’t thank them enough.”

It’s great to hear how excited Josh is about his life and future. His learning journey with Logic4training has brought him a long way. If you’ve been inspired by his story, get in touch and we can help you set out on your own career path in the BSE sector. Just give us a call.
