Both my tutors, Russell and Glenn, were 100% and managed to translate what at first felt mystifying in the textbook into real-life physical scenarios.
You may remember we introduced you to Darren McCarthy in November 2021.
He was the lucky plumbing competition winner in our Northolt centre. Currently a taxi driver, Darren has now completed the course and started to put the feelers out to get some real-world plumbing experience under his belt in order to make the move from the driving to drains.
We caught up with him to hear how he got on at Northolt and find out what he’s been up to since the new year.
DM: “I was over the moon to be the plumbing competition winner and be offered a free place on the plumbing course. I took the six-week Bronze package, designed for people like me, with no previous experience and it’s given me an excellent grounding, I can’t praise it enough!
“Both my tutors, Russell and Glenn, were 100% and managed to translate what at first felt mystifying in the textbook into real-life physical scenarios. For an older learner like me, this was a great way to approach the theory and I was able to pick things up pretty quickly, to build a wealth of plumbing knowledge. Did you know, for instance, that water expands 16000 times at 100 °C? That’s staggering!
“I’m really pleased that after just six weeks of hard work, I now have a plumbing qualification – a Level 2 Diploma in the installation and maintenance of plumbing and heating systems.
With all I learnt at Northolt, I’m ready to start out on my new journey. Although I’m still taxi driving, I’m putting feelers out for plumbing experience to build my confidence. I’ve a friend who wants a bath and basin fitted, so I’ve offered to do it for free, so that I can practice my new skills.
“I learnt so much on the course and have met some new friends. I was lucky, I won my place, but I’d encourage anyone to learn something new, regardless of age. I feel it’s given me so much.”
The Bronze package is the foundation level in Logic4training’s suite of plumbing training courses. There are three others, the Silver, the Gold and the Platinum, all using the qualification that Darren took as the basic building block and supplementing it with further modules.
