Frank shares his experience of Logic4training's Essential Site Skills Course

Frank Paintsil, in his early fifties, is an agency worker, on building sites in Central London. He has diplomas in electrical installation from Lewisham College but has discovered that the addition of some other trade-related skills and more specialist qualifications, not available through the college, have helped him get more work. He recently took our Essential Site Skills course at Northolt, which has given him the confidence he needs to work on a variety of building sites that helps set him apart.

What is the Essential Site Skills course?

Logic4training’s Essential Site Skills course covers a lot in five days and gives you the opportunity to familiarise yourself with a number of tasks and the equipment you’ll be expected to use on-site. It looks at the safe use of different tools, site safety and the building regulations that support the work you do. You’ll learn essential carpentry skills, wall fixing methods and how to chase solid brick and block walls, so that pipes and cables can be hidden. Repairs to plasterboard and ceramic tiles are also covered on the course.

Frank explains:

“When you’re looking for agency work, you need to be able to demonstrate that you can work with the latest tools and machinery. The course I did at Logic4training was good in helping me familiarise myself with a range of skills. The equipment they have at Northolt is the latest; bang up to date.

“I’ve discovered that it’s useful to have some extra skills and qualifications if you want to get regular agency work and to work your way up through the ranks. The more skills you have, the more they need you. For example, they’ll always say you need a driving licence, but it’s not just that, you need extra skills relating to your trade. It makes you look good!

“I started out as an Electrician’s Mate and have worked my way up to Improver. Now I have my Level 3 qualification, but I’ve got plans to move higher. I want to take my 18th Edition Wiring Regulations and Inspection Testing next, so that I can get my ECS (Electrotechnical Certification Scheme) card. Then, I’ll be able to work more independently, on my own. The training I get at Logic4training will help me achieve this.”

Frank’s approach is a solid one. Supplementing his initial training with bite-size courses and qualifications that build upon his skills and experience, will set him in good stead and we wish him all the best in furthering his career.
