Gas metering engineers holding certificates for CMA1, CESP1, CMA3 or L2 Smart Meter Diploma (Gas or Dual Fuel) can now upskill to become a domestic gas heating installer with our
Domestic Gas Heating Installer – Experienced trades package.
The course includes ACS Scheme qualifications - Core Domestic Natural Gas Safety (CCN1), Central Heating Boilers/Hot Water Heaters (CENWAT), Cookers (CKR1) and Space Heaters (HTR1) – allowing successful candidates to update their registration with the Gas Safe Register.
Steps to becoming a Gas Safe registered Domestic Gas Heating Installer
Step 1: Attend one of our induction open days (3 hrs)
We run free, no obligation induction sessions at all of our centres (Northolt, Luton, Basildon or Sittingbourne), during which we will explain each of the different parts of the training programme, the qualifications, taking your ACS and how to become Gas Safe Registered. At the end of induction, a short course suitability assessment will be carried out. You do not have to book at this point – you are free to take the information away and consider in your own time whether this training programme is right for you.
Step 2: Start training (12 days)
Training can be carried out at all our centres (Northolt, Luton, Basildon or Sittingbourne). The programme includes both theory and practical tasks in our dedicated classrooms and gas workshops. The course takes place during normal opening hours, Monday to Friday. You may also be given extra revision tasks and online learning to complete. We will provide a training manual for you to use and keep.
At the end of the in-centre part of the training, you will undertake a theory and practical assessment based upon what you have learnt during the programme. On successful completion, you will be ready to start on site.
Note: A CMA1, CMA3 or Smart Meter Diploma (Gas or Dual Fuel) certificate saves 3 days of training on our
Domestic Gas Heating Installer – Experienced trades package.
Step 3: Build your Portfolio
As part of the programme you will need to build a portfolio of a minimum of five boiler installs to demonstrate that you can apply the knowledge and skills learnt in the centre. This work must take place under the supervision of a Gas Safe registered engineer. During this stage you may be working with your employer, or assisting another registered engineer on their jobs. If you cannot complete all the tasks using your own contacts and resources, we have facilities and Gas Safe registered engineers who can assist you in the completion of your portfolio (this will incur an additional charge of £600+VAT).
Step 4: Take your Final ACS Domestic Gas assessments (5 days)
On successful completion of the ACS assessment you will be ready to apply to join the Gas Safe Register.
Price - £2795 + VAT
Step 5 (Optional): Add Cookers (CKR1) and Space Heaters (HTR1) to your Gas Safe registration
Cookers and Space Heaters are not included in the training programme, but can be added on as separate courses; one day for each appliance, with extra charges (£190/day plus £65 Certificate fee) applicable.
