Logic4training’s Bronze Domestic Gas Heating Installer (DGHI) New Entrants package is a Managed Learning Programme (MLP) for those wishing to enter the gas, heating and plumbing industry but who don’t necessarily have relevant experience or qualifications.
Make 2025 the year that you take control of your future. From inventory auditors to healthcare professionals, we’ve helped many people switch jobs and join the trades as a gas engineer.
Gas engineers benefit from working in an industry that requires many practical skills. Not only this, they have many options when it comes to expanding their skill set. Contrary to belief, gas heating will be around for many years. There is a lot of work out there. The number of gas boilers in the UK ranges between 58% and 78% (Statista, 2024 & Uswitch, 2023), which shows a large percentage of homes are heated by gas. Gas engineers may also want to upskill in commercial gas, LPG, and even renewables, such as heat pumps, to provide a range of services.
Hear the inspiring journey of Toby, one of our successful students who transformed his career by becoming a gas engineer.
Logic4training’s Domestic Gas Heating Installer (DGHI) New Entrants course is for candidates looking to become Gas Safe Registered but do not have the skills and knowledge to undertake the ACS gas assessments.
This Managed Learning Programme (MLP) starts with the basic principles of gas heating and plumbing and pipework skills, leading to further areas such as heating design, gas safety and hot water systems. All topics are broken down into easy-to-digest sections.
The domestic heating industry is undergoing a huge change as we head toward net zero 2050, yet there is a long-term shortage of skilled heating installers.
Training as a gas engineer is a great starting point for a varied and successful career in this exciting sector – you’ll have lots of work installing, servicing and maintaining the 23 million gas boilers in homes across the UK and build a secure foundation of knowledge and experience for further training in new technologies.
By choosing to become a domestic gas installer you are choosing a trade and career that will always be in demand.
The DGHI new entrants course starts with the basic principles of gas heating and plumbing and pipework skills, leading to further areas such as heating design, gas safety and hot water systems.
As this is a Managed Learning Programme, all topics are broken down into easy-to-digest sections, with industry recognised qualifications and certificates of competence awarded on completion of each module.
On completion of this course, candidates will be able to undertake Gas ACS training and assessment – a pre-requisite of joining the Gas Safe register.
This course consists of eight weeks in-centre training, supported by on-line training and assessment, followed by on-site work experience and ACS training and assessment.
Core training: Candidates will complete the DGHI New Entrants course and the Managed Learning Programme (MLP). Successful students will receive competence certificates for the different technical elements and an industry recognised MLP training certificate from LCL Awards once the on-site portfolio has been completed; necessary to access ACS gas training and assessment.
On-site work experience: Candidates will then be ready to start building an on-site portfolio. You can do your on-site portfolio and boiler installations with a Gas Safe Registered engineer of your choice or we can provide a portfolio building service. The silver, gold and platinum package includes this element in the price.
Boiler installations: Before starting your onsite portfolio you will need to undertake a Direct Observation of a boiler installation, service and repair within our centre, this is included within the cost of the programme. This takes place over 2 days. You will then need to complete and record within your portfolio, a further four boiler installations as required by the ACS scheme. You can do this with a Gas Safe Registered engineer of your choice. We will review your portfolio mid way through and make recommendations. If you are unable to complete all the tasks on site we may be able to carry the remaining tasks within our centre.
ACS assessment: Once the on-site portfolio and boiler installations have been completed and signed off you are ready to return to the centre to undertake refresher training and ACS gas assessment for CCN1 and CENWAT.
Come to one of our free introductory sessions in Northolt – you’ll be talked through the course and have a tour of the centre, as well as the chance to ask questions and meet the staff.
