Logic4training’s New Entrant Commercial Catering course is an in-depth training programme covering all aspects of core commercial catering gas safety.
This ACS recognised course is aimed at operatives with some experience who wish to join the Gas Safe register and work in the commercial catering sector.
The New Entrant Commercial Catering training course is for operatives who are looking to become Gas Safe registered but do not currently have the skills to undertake the ACS Scheme qualifications.
It gives a comprehensive understanding of commercial catering gas safety, regulations and appliances. In accordance with ACS scheme requirements, there is an on-site element where operatives build a portfolio of real-world work.
On successful completion of this course, operatives will be in a position to undertake core commercial gas safety training and assessment and apply to join the Gas Safe register.
This course is recognised under the Nationally Accredited Certification Scheme for Gas Fitting Operatives (ACS) as a pre-requisite Managed Learning Programme (MLP) prior to assessment and application to join the Gas Safe Register.
The comprehensive course includes training on the following:
- Gas safety (installation & use) regulations
- Gas industry unsafe situations procedure
- Installation requirements of commercial pipework
- Commercial chimney requirements and clean air act
- Ventilation requirements for commercial appliances
- Commercial catering appliance and pipework controls
- Commission, service, repair and breakdown of COMCAT1 appliances i.e. boiler burners, open / solid top ranges, hotplates, bain maries, steam ovens.
- Commission, service, repair and breakdown of COMCAT3 appliances i.e. deep at fryers, pressure fryers, griddles, grills
- Suitable types of carbon monoxide detectors for catering establishments.
- Design and testing of kitchen ventilation systems
- Types of canopy extraction systems
- Carbon dioxide testing of canopies
- Types of canopy extraction systems
- Safety interlock and gas proving systems
This course also includes the following Health & Safety modules:
- Manual Handling
- Working at Heights (WAH)
- Asbestos Awareness
- Basic Fire Safety Awareness
- Working Safely
This training programme is followed by on-site work experience and completion of a portfolio of commercial catering gas work, as required by the ACS scheme.
Successful candidates can move on to undertake training and ACS assessment in Core Commercial Catering Gas Safety (CCCN1), Gas Ranges (COMCAT1) and Gas Fryers (COMCAT3) and apply to join Gas Safe register.
The cost of the course includes training, Approved Prior Learning (APL) assessment, the certification fee and the Candidate Workbook for recording on-site experience.
Acceptance on to the course is subject to an informal induction interview and proof of existing commercial catering experience in order to meet the ACS Scheme entry requirements.
To meet the entry requirements, candidates should:
- have a working knowledge and at least 2 years’ experience in the commercial gas catering area
- be currently working within the industry
- be able to competently install pipework relevant to their area of work
- have a basic understanding & knowledge of commercial catering installations.
